Come visit the Australian Synchrotron, one of Australia's most significant pieces of scientific infrastructure!

The Australian Synchrotron in Clayton is a world-class science facility that supports a broad range of high-quality research across medicine, nanotechnology, manufacturing and mineral exploration. Accelerating electrons to 3 GeV in energy, the synchrotron generates intense X-ray beams for use a number of specialised experimental end stations, or 'beamlines', each dedicated to a different technique.

The AIP is offering members a rare opportunity to get an expert guided tour of Australia's only synchrotron light source. In addition to the visiting the beamlines, we will take advantage of a current maintenance period and visitors will be able to enter the normally off-limits accelerator tunnels and see the nations highest energy particle accelerators up close.

Approximately 15-20 years ago, NUPP leaders in academia hosted an annual Summer School for PhD students that rotated between hosts and venues across the country. The NUPP community came together at the 2024 AIP Congress and identified professional development of our HDR students as an immediate strategic priority. In 2026, the NUPP Executive Committee aims to reimagine this tradition with a Postgraduate Summer School designed to foster community, deepen knowledge, and equip students with the skills required to thrive in today’s diverse and evolving job markets.

See https://indico.global/event/15102/ for further details and to apply to attend the summer school.
